“My love of dance really started with Weave, it was with Weave that I landed in my skin and was given the opportunity to find out what my body could do, rather than what it couldn’t do.”

Caroline Bowditch, performer, disability advocate and CEO of Arts Access

Accessible Training

Weave is a Not for Profit disability dance and theatre company run by disabled performer, choreographer and director Janice Florence. Weave is unique in that it is disability-led, offering students and company members of Weave the opportunity to learn and be led by a dancer who has a lived, experiential understanding of the challenges and barriers faced in a world that is not accessible to everyone.

Janice’s service to the arts has been recently recognised by the Australia Council for the arts, naming Janice Florence as the 2019 recipient of the National Arts and Disability Award for an Established Artist.

Weave Movement Theatre offers an inclusive and diverse community where both disabled and non-disabled people with a passion for performance can access high level performing arts training as well as opportunities to present their work to the Australian public.

Weave focuses on cultivating creative expression, encouraging our members to contribute and shape the organisation with their strengths, ideas and stories. Our mission is to continue to provide the public with performances that are like no other. They are performances which excite, cause spontaneous laughter and challenge our audiences to see the world a little differently.

Accessible Training

Weave Movement Theatre is a labour of love and relies on project to project funding to rehearse, create performances and offer workshops. In a competitive and highly saturated arts industry funding is not always assured.

By donating to Weave Movement Theatre you enable the company a fluid path in continuing to produce some of the most impactful theatre being made in Australia today. Additionally, donations ensure that vocational pathways for disabled people in the arts remain available and accessible. These funds have a significant impact on the health of our organisation and will assist in the core operations of our company. Weave has been foundational for many successful disabled performers, choreographers and disability advocates over its 27 year long existence.

Help Weave continue in the service of supporting disabled performers to gain equal opportunities in pursuing a career in the arts. Let’s work together to see a vibrant and inclusive performing arts industry in Australia.
