Professional Development workshops for performers with disability

Professional Development workshops for performers with disability.

In late 2014 Weave curated a series of workshops for performers with disability. Respected guest artists were invited as tutors: Yumi Umiumare, MIchelle Heaven, Olivia Millard and Caroline Bowditch.

Weave company members and performers with disability from outside the company attended. Funded by Arts Access Australia and the Australia Council for the Arts, the series culminated in a 3 day workshop lead by Caroline Bowditch, on a visit home from the UK, a dancer and teacher with a disability with a successful career in the UK and Europe. Performers with disability from all over Australia attended, supported by Arts Access Australia.

This was the first such series to be held in Australia. Great skill development resulted. New networks and
creative relationships blossomed. Weave has gone on to create a new original work with Yumi Umiumare in 2015 and 2016. Joshua Pether, dancer and choreographer from WA has lead a creative development involving Weave performers in 2016.
